SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- In November, the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego will be celebrating the legacy of the iconic film, "Jaws," and the novel that inspired it.

The aquarium is hosting an event titled "Jaws@50: A Conversation with Wendy Benchley," featuring the wife of the late Peter Benchley, the author of the novel that inspired the 1975 film.

The event, which will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., will give guests a sneak peek at the new "Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story" documentary. Plus, people can hear from Wendy Benchley, an ocean advocate, and learn how the film jumpstart people's fascination and understanding of sharks.

“My late husband Peter always hoped his storytelling would inspire people to care more deeply about the ocean," Benchley said in a statement shared by the aquarium. "Aquariums like Birch Aquarium play a vital role in turning that inspiration into action by advancing marine science and conservation. I can’t think of a better place to honor Peter’s legacy and explore how far we’ve come — and how far we still have to go.”

Other speakers include renowned shark researchers Dovi Kacev and Brendan Talwar from Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
