A 41-year-old man suffered severe injuries Wednesday when a trash truck hit him in a Hillcrest alley, authorities reported.

The man was lying in the alley off the 4000 block of Front Street when he extended his left leg into the path of the southbound waste-management vehicle shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The resulting impact tore a large amount of skin off one of the man’s feet and left him with several bone breaks.

Among the breaks was a compound ankle fracture, Officer David O’Brien said.
