Thieves attempt to rip ATM from 7-Eleven in early morning heist, police report

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- San Diego Police are investigating an early morning attempted ATM theft at a 7-Eleven convenience store that left the storefront damaged but no suspects in custody.

According to the San Diego Police Department, around 4:26 a.m. Saturday, a group of suspects used a truck to chain and forcibly pull apart the front doors of a 7-Eleven store. The location of the store is on Oro Vista Road and Tocayo.

Authorities say the suspects — described only as multiple individuals wearing masks — were attempting to steal the store’s ATM. Despite the damage, they were unsuccessful in removing or accessing the machine.

Shortly after the attempted theft, officers located the truck believed to have been used in the crime. Police say the vehicle’s door was left open and a screwdriver was found in the ignition. The truck had not been reported stolen at the time of discovery.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
