The Ark Season 3 Episode 8 Delivers Reveals Wrapped in Heartbreak
Zed most definitely deserves to be crowned the character of the week on The Ark Season 3.
Just after we learned that his son was on the EF ship that crashed on Homebase-1, there was also an element of hope as bodies were found off the ship.
Yet we learned that The Ark had already used up its miracle of the season.

Speaking of that miracle, everything came to a head with Brice, as the creature in his head gained more control.
Zed Gets the Answers He Needs
Much of The Ark Season 3 Episode 8 was focused on the mystery involving the EF ship.
We knew that there was a chance something bad had happened to EF-1. That possibility came up during The Ark Season 2, as we learned more about Zed, the Eastern Front, and his family.
We hoped for some sort of happy ending.
Despite the GSA and EF being at odds on Earth, Zed set his beliefs about the GSA aside.

He found a path forward with Garnet and the rest of Ark One, becoming a loyal and friendly face.
Even when the EF found itself blamed for everything on Homebase-1, Zed kept trying to create peace.
So, to find out that his son had been killed when EF-1 crashed hurt and Zed’s pain and anger showed. I’m just grateful Zed got the answers he needed—even if they weren’t what he wanted.
He knew it was wrong to make Garnet the enemy, but in one moment, he couldn’t help it. And who can blame him?
It didn’t help that he’d learned Ves was a member of Black Thorn.

Her and her followers being on Homebase-1, potentially around the same time as EF-1 crashed, was going to play with his rational mind.
He needed someone to blame, and we usually blame those closest to us.

Friendship brings a grace in a moment of loss like this, and seeing Garnet, Alicia, Ian, and others give him that grace showed they value him.
It also gave us one of the best Garnet scenes of The Ark Season 3, as she helped Zed stop blaming himself.
These are two characters who don’t tend to open up much, and that comes from being in a position of command.

They have each other, and Garnet being there to allow Zed to share what was on his mind was a power move for the series.
It also let the two work together to figure out Ves’ hiding spot.
Of course, that meant Kabir’s relationship with her ex-husband came back up again, as it turns out he was part of Black Thorn too.
Kabir is dealing with a lot in this episode by finding out that Milan died — and that Marsh is possibly the reason for that — and we get a hint at how it’s so difficult to break out of a cycle of abuse.
As much as Kabir hated the man she married, part of her is still connected to him, shown by how much she remembers to give the team the four-digit PIN to the Black Thorn device.

It’s All Connected
When they found Ves, it only led to more heartbreaking answers.
Black Thorn didn’t shoot EF-1 down. That part is still a mystery, and it likely involves the planet’s indigenous people.
However, Ves did act out of malice and prejudice, openly firing on a group of unarmed people.
There was no excuse, and she and the rest of Black Thorn deserve everything bad that comes to them.

This sort of prejudice against people shows why people are at war. Nobody can see each other’s side, and it’s easier to attack than to listen.
But I don’t think for one second that the Black Thorn story is over.
The Ark Season 3 Episode 8 made it clear that the people who already lived on this planet watched as Ves and her people shot down the unarmed EF crew members.
This is their first introduction to people from Earth, and mixed with the generators causing them pain, it’s no wonder that they captured and held people captive instead of trying to communicate.

It’s also clear they likely have something to do with the EF ship crashing, and I think it has to do with that metal ball in the cave they demand Kelly and Angus fix.
I’m curious whether that metal ball is the broken thing “Doc” wanted Brice to fix, since Christie Burke recently shared that everything is connected.
As Ark One got back to Homebase-1, Doc had more control over Brice’s mind, and she was walking him into the woods.
She’s made it clear since the simulation that Brice needs to fix her, and now this group of people is threatening to kill Angus and Kelly if they don’t fix something.

Now, if only people knew where Kelly and Angus had gone! Why, oh why, did Angus think to listen to Kelly and not at least tell Trust what he was doing?
Hopefully, Alicia can keep using that brain of hers to find them, the way she used it to get Doc out of Brice’s head.
Of course, there’s the need to help Brice get some memories back. Was wiping his memories of Eva Doc’s way to get some last revenge before being removed?
With four episodes left, I’m excited to see how these storylines start coming together to bring the battle with the indigenous people to an end.
