Suspect in custody, accused of shooting, killing Mark Edward Tome, 52

A man was in custody Saturday, suspected in the shooting death of a 52-year-old victim in City Heights earlier in the week.
San Diego police arrested the suspect, Keith Rose, 72, at 11:40 a.m. Friday in the area of 4800 Filipo Street. Rose, investigators said in a news release, lives across the street from where the shooting took place Tuesday.
At about 11:55 p.m. that evening officers were flagged down and told that the sound of gunshots had been heard near 43rd Street and Polk Avenue.
Officers checked the area and located a person down in the west alley of 43rd between University and Polk Avenue. The man, believed to be homeless, was transported to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
He has been identified as Mark Edward Tome of San Diego.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate and learned Tome was involved in an altercation with another man in the alley prior to the shots ringing out. A person of interest was detained and interviewed, but ultimately released pending additional investigation.
Detectives later identified a different man, Rose, as a suspect. The relationship between Tome and Rose is not known at this time, police said.
