Suspect arrested after drug-laced letter sent to San Diego County jail

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of mailing a drug-laced letter to a San Diego County jail, authorities said.

Brittany Shahbakhti, 34, was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on numerous charges, including sending a controlled substance into jail and conspiracy, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Thursday.

On Aug. 21, the San Diego County Sheriff's Mail Processing Center intercepted the narcotic-laced letter through the U.S. mail intended for an incarcerated person housed at a San Diego County Sheriff's Detention Facility

Then on Thursday, authorities served a search warrant at the suspect's home in Orange County's Fullerton where she was arrested.

Sending a controlled substance into a jail is a felony with a penalty of up to six years in custody, according to SDSO.
