A slow-moving brush fire briefly threatened rural homes near Valley View Casino on Monday before ground and airborne crews were able to subdue the flames.
The blaze erupted for unknown reasons shortly before noon in the area of Cool Water Ranch Road and Quiet Place in Valley Center, according to Cal Fire.
It took firefighters just over an hour to halt the spread of the flames, which blackened about nine acres but resulted in no reported structural damage or injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
