Sig Alert issued after big rig jackknifes on I-15 in Mission Valley

A semi tractor-trailer hydroplaned during heavy rains Thursday, crashed into a center divider and jack-knifed, blocking the right three lanes of traffic on northbound Interstate 15 and prompting a Sig Alert just south of Interstate 8.
The solo-vehicle incident was reported to the California Highway Patrol about 10:50 a.m, causing officials to issue a Sig Alert and report that the big rig’s front-end was smashed during the crash.
It was not immediately known whether the tractor-trailer driver was injured.
The CHP reported that a tow truck was called to remove the tractor-trailer. Meanwhile, motorists were encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid the accident scene.
Cleanup efforts were expected to take several hours, according to the CHP.
