Shana Hazan has announced her candidacy for reelection to the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education for Subdistrict B, encompassing the northeastern swath of the city.

Hazan, a current trustee who first won her board seat in 2022, was subsequently elected board president by her colleagues for a one-year term in 2024.

During her tenure, she has focused on implementing new metrics to enhance student wellness, academic achievement and college readiness, according to her campaign site.

Hazan brings extensive classroom experience to the role, having spent most of her career as a public elementary school teacher. She holds a Master’s degree in Education and Social Policy and has received recognition including “Woman of the Year” honors from former Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins and selection as a San Diego Metro “40 Under 40” honoree.

Hazan’s campaign has already gained momentum, raising more than $27,000 in the first half of 2025. Her bid has attracted support from prominent elected officials including Congressmember Sara Jacobs and Assembly members Chris Ward and Darshana Patel. She also has backing from fellow board members Cody Petterson, Richard Barrera and Sabrina Bazzo.

The primary election for San Diego Unified School Board Subdistrict B is June 2, 2026.
