SD Wave retiring Alex Morgan’s No. 13 as Upper Deck launches line to honor her legacy

Ahead of Sunday’s match, San Diego Wave FC will honor Alex Morgan, retiring her No. 13.
Fans in attendance at Snapdragon Stadium will see something special, but there will be more chances to celebrate Morgan’s legacy with premium trading cards and memorabilia being produced in collaboration with Upper Deck.
The retirement of Morgan’s jersey will be the first such tribute in the club’s history, taking place at 5:30 pm. Sunday.
Morgan is known for her two World Cup and Olympic gold medal wins with the U.S. national team and serving as Wave FC captain and winning the NWSL Golden Boot. She retired from soccer last year.
She was the first overall pick in the 2011 Women’s Professional Soccer Draft out of UC Berkeley and ranks in the top 10 all-time in national team appearances, goals and assists.
In addition to being honored by her former club, Morgan signed with Upper Deck as an exclusive spokesperson for the global company specializing in sports and entertainment collectibles.
“Alex is a pioneer and a leader on and off the field. She has paved the way for generations to follow, and continues to push women’s sports forward,” said Jason Masherah, president of Upper Deck. “As a Southern California company, Alex’s commitment to San Diego makes this collaboration particularly special for us. Her commitment to helping the next generation and efforts throughout the community are inspiring and we at Upper Deck are honored to support those efforts.”
The memorabilia includes signed jerseys from across Morgan’s career, including with Team USA, San Diego Wave FC and even from her time at Berkeley.
