San Diego teen left unconscious after violent attack at beach

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A local mother is speaking out after her 16-year-old daughter was attacked and pistol whipped and left unconscious at the beach near Belmont Park.

“She’s scared that something else is going to happen to her,” said Nallely Rodriguez, the teen’s mother.

Around 1 a.m. on Saturday, San Diego Police say Rodriguez's daughter was attacked by a group of 15 people. Rodriguez says the group consisted mostly of males who beat her daughter outside the restroom at the beach which is located near the parking lot.

Her daughter was verbally attacked and then physically as she walked out of the restroom with her cousin and two friends.

“They were just beating on her, she fell to the ground, everyone started beating on her,” Rodriguez explained. “One of the guys had a gun and hit her on the face and head.”

San Diego Police reports the 16-year-old was allegedly punched, kicked and struck with a firearm, and that a shot was fired near her. Police say she was taken to the hospital with multiple bruises and a laceration to the back of her head.

Graphic video shows her being kicked while lying on the ground motionless by a group of what appear to be teens.

“Someone starts pouring a bottle of liquor on her face while she’s unconscious,” Rodriguez added. “They grabbed her and dragged her to beach to leave her for dead.”

Her daughter was driven to the hospital by friends and is now at home recovering from bruises and injuries she sustained.

San Diego Police say 911 calls came in at 1:04 a.m. and officers arrived less than 10 minutes later.

“How are you going to beat on someone that’s already unconscious, how does that make you more of a man? I don’t understand it.”

No arrests have been made yet in this case and no suspects have been identified. Police are still investigating what happened and are asking anyone with more information to come forward.
