SAN DIEGO (KUSI) -- Entering its final season before heading to the Pac-12, San Diego State football has one more "first" to check off its list: playing a live game on KUSI-TV.

San Diego State's football home opener against Stony Brook will be aired on KUSI on Thursday, August 28th at 7:00 P.M. Viewers can watch through their cable and satellite programming, as well as the free FOX5 KUSI Now streaming TV app and on YouTube TV.

The Aztecs have remolded their team for 2025, including more than 40 new players from recruiting and the transfer portal. Linebacker Trey White, an Eastlake High School alum, was named the Mountain West Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, and placekicker Gabe Plascencia was also named the Mountain West Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year.

KUSI-TV has been a staple in the San Diego broadcasting world since 1982, and has aired several sporting events, including the San Diego Padres, San Diego Chargers, high school football games and LIV Golf.

Their brand identity for sports is led by the seven-time Emmy-winning Prep Pigskin Report, which showcases the best local football in town. Currently, 16 players on the SDSU roster have been previously profiled on the PPR.

KUSI-TV was acquired by Nexstar in 2023 and is now one of the more than 220 stations that make up their network, including sister station KSWB/FOX5.
