San Diego freeway named nation's most riskiest road for drivers this Halloween
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Halloween is a time of fun for those looking to dress up in costumes, but it can also be a dangerous time when it comes to travel.
Allstate recently conducted a study of the most riskiest roads in the nation. San Diego's Interstate 8 eastbound (Exit 7 to I-15N) ranked at the top of the list.
The insurance company found that the riskiest time to travel on that area of I-8 is Sunday through Thursday from 7–11 p.m., while the safest time is Monday through Friday from 6–9 a.m.
Last week, La Mesa Police Officer Lauren Craven and a driver she was assisting, who was involved in a multi-vehicle crash, were killed in that vicinity on I-8.
With Halloween landing on a Friday this year, many drivers will be out on the roads.
Allstate Drivewise, a safe driving program, shows aggressive driving behavior in major U.S. cities is especially common on the weekends, peaking between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Fatal car crashes are also more frequent on weekends, peaking on Saturdays, according to the National Safety Council's federal crash data.
Other West Coast cities that made the list include Phoenix (I-17N at Exit 223B to SR-74W) and Las Vegas (I-11N/US-95N at Exit 82A to Lake Mead Blvd E).
Allstate's list of the 10 riskiest roads analyzed driving behavior across the 50 most populous U.S. cities, identifying the 10 riskiest road segments based on rates of hard braking and speeding.
