North County Transit District celebrates 50 years with pop-up events



The North County Transit system turned 50 years old Saturday and to celebrate, officials will host pop-up events at stations next week.
The events, from Tuesday through Thursday, will feature free limited edition giveaways for passengers, with a Saturday community celebration to follow.
In addition, North County Transit, formerly known as the North County Transit District, will unveil a brand new logo and a redesign of its SPRINTER hybrid rail vehicles.
The celebration is just one look into what’s next for public transportation in North County.
As one of the most anticipated reveals of anniversary week, the redesigned SPRINTER cars, known for connecting Oceanside to Escondido along 22 miles of light rail, is getting a modern makeover to improve functionality and rider experience.
The first pop-up event will take place at the Oceanside Transit Center, where the redesigned SPRINTER will be officially unveiled. Here’s the full schedule:
- Tuesday – Oceanside Transit Center, 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
- Vista Transit Center: 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
- Wednesday – Carlsbad Village COASTER Station, 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
- Sorrento Valley COASTER Station, 1:15 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.
- Thursday – Palomar College SPRINTER Station: 6:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
- Escondido Transit Center: 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday – 50th anniversary press conference and celebration, Oceanside Transit Center, 10:00 a.m. – noon
