Inmate attacks deputy with makeshift knife at San Diego Courthouse: Police
An inmate at the Vista Detention Facility is accused of assaulting a San Diego County Sheriff's deputy with a makeshift knife while being transported back to jail after a court appearance.

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A San Diego County Sheriff's deputy was assaulted by an inmate with a makeshift knife while attempting to transport them after a court appearance, the sheriff's office reports.
Ernesto Olea, 29, an inmate at the Vista Detention Facility, was at the San Diego Central Courthouse in downtown San Diego for a scheduled court appearance around 9 a.m. Friday when the sheriff's office says he tried to stab a deputy in the head and neck with a makeshift knife when they opened the holding cell door to transport him back to jail.
The sheriff's office says the deputy was able to fight off the attack and regain control of Olea until more deputies arrived to assist. The deputy had minor cuts to his hand from the altercation, and Olea had a small gash on the top of his head.
Olea was taken to the hospital for treatment, and is now facing additional charges of attempted murder of a peace officer and possession of a weapon in jail, according to the sheriff's office.
