SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- All eyes were on Washington D.C. Monday as President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met for a second time this year.

President Zelenskyy spoke positively about the negotiations this time around and thanked President Trump for his efforts. The talks included support from other European leaders including France and Germany. Some pushed for a ceasefire as President Trump vowed to offer some level of security guarantees for Ukraine.

“Our president is a very powerful person. It’s very important that America is on Ukraine’s side. It will be America that will help end this war, it’s critical,” said Vera Skop, Vice President of the House of Ukraine in Balboa Park. “These people are incredible fighters, they are sick of the war. They want it to finish. The cost of this war has been enormous.”

Hearing President Trump vowing he wants the same has given Skop some sense of reassurance that things are moving in the right direction.

“I have no choice but to trust the process,” she said. “This war will have to stop at some point and they will win in some way, it’s how they will win.”
