There is a temperature rollercoaster forecast this week in San Diego County, with scorching heat in parts of the region giving way to relief by the weekend.
Hot conditions will persist through Wednesday across the county, with mountain areas under a heat advisory until Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
The county’s desert regions face even more intense conditions under an extreme heat warning through Tuesday evening, as high pressure systems settle over the region.
High temperatures Monday are expected to reach 71 to 76 near the coast, 78 to 82 inland, 81 to 85 in the western valleys, 89 to 94 near the foothills, 88 to 98 in the mountains and 111 to 115 in the deserts, the NWS said.
Wednesday marks the turning point as the weather pattern begins to shift. A gradual cooling trend will take hold, dropping temperatures 3-5 degrees each day through Friday.
That marine layer will strengthen and push further inland each morning bringing cooling to more areas, according to the weather agency.
Temperatures are expected to drop 5-10 degrees below normal by the weekend. This below-normal pattern is forecast to continue into early next week, meteorologists said.
