Forget about Oktoberfest – have you heard of Flocktoberfest? The homesteading business, Hawthorne Country Store, celebrates its 22nd annual Flocktoberfest on Saturday.

The event, open to the public, will be hosted at Hawthorne’s three stores in Escondido, Fallbrook and Santee. Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with and learn about chickens, how to care for them and more.

Heather Thelen, Hawthorne Country Store co-owner and a homesteader, said chickens are “pets with benefits” as they produce protein, recycle waste and create fertilizer.

The products and chicks will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all three locations.

Store addresses are:

Escondido – : 675 W. Grand Ave., Escondido
Fallbrook – 215 W. Fallbrook St., Fallbrook
Santee – 10845 Woodside Ave., Santee

Free educational videos are also available on Hawthorne’s YouTube channel, including a “Chick 101” video.
