Other names on the list include a handful of artists from San Diego County.
Alex Warren, who grew up in Carlsbad, has been nominated for Best New Artist. His single "Ordinary," which was released on Feb. 7, was a commercial success and topped the Billboard Global 200 for 10 weeks straight.
Anoushka Shankar, a British-American musician who spent her teenage years in Encinitas, received two nominations -- one for Best Global Music Performance for her recording of "Daybreak," featuring Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, and the other for Best Global Music Album.
Other San Diego-area artists on the list of Grammy nominees include recording engineer Joseph Lorge, who also earned two nominations, singer/violinist Sara Watkins from Vista, and Jamie Foxx, who formerly studied at United States International University in San Diego.
Alisa Weilerstein, who is married to Rafael Payare, the music director for the San Diego Symphony, was also among the nominees. She was recognized in the categories Best Contemporary Classical Composition and Producer Of The Year, Classical.
Meanwhile, the nominees for Album Of The Year are all first-timers in that category -- Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Clipse, Pusha T and Malice, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Leon Thomas and Tyler, The Creator are all vying for the iconic golden gramophone.
