Heads up for weekend travelers – coastal rail service between San Diego and Oceanside will be suspended again Saturday and Sunday for routine maintenance and infrastructure projects.

COASTER, Amtrak and freight trains will not operate from Oceanside Transit Center to Santa Fe Depot during the closure, with regular service set to resume before the morning commute Monday, Jan. 26, according to the North County Transit District.

This service interruption marks the second planned shutdown this month, part of NCTD’s periodic weekend closures that allow crews to safely work along the rail line.

Work will continue on several projects, including Del Mar bluffs stabilization and the Batiquitos Lagoon double track project in Carlsbad. The next closure window is Feb. 21-22, according to NCTD.

Alternative transportation options for passengers who normally use the COASTER include BREEZE bus Route 101 and various Metropolitan Transit System connections. Sprinter service between Oceanside and Escondido will not be impacted.

NCTD said residents along the corridor may see test trains, construction vehicles and equipment operating on or near the tracks throughout the weekend. Officials urged the public to remain alert and to cross the rail line only at designated crossings.
