Authorities name victims in multiple collisions, 3 in North County

Authorities Tuesday released the names of six people who lost their lives in San Diego-area traffic accidents.

Shortly before 10 p.m. last Thursday, Alyssha Karup-Joseph, 38, was ejected from a vehicle that overturned while going down an embankment after a crash off Interstate 15 north of state Route 76 in Fallbrook, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Paramedics took Karup-Joseph, of San Diego, to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where doctors pronounced her dead the following morning.

At about 6:40 p.m. last Wednesday, Jad Farner, 23, of Oceanside was killed when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into an SUV that was stopped in a left-turn lane in the 500 block of North Melrose Drive in Vista. Farner died at the scene.

On Oct. 28, on state Route 163 in Linda Vista, Santos Griego, 47, was heading south shortly before 2:30 a.m. when the BMW 850i he was driving veered off the freeway near Friars Road, struck a tree and caught fire. An ambulance crew took Griego to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.

At about 10:45 p.m. Oct. 26, Michael Almedina of San Diego was riding a motorcycle that collided with a sedan at Balboa and Eckstrom avenues in Clairemont Mesa. Medics took Almedina, 32, to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Shortly before 5 a.m. that same day, Roberto Jimenez Jr., 26, of San Diego died in a crash on state Route 125 in La Mesa. He was a passenger in a sedan that veered off state Route 125 near Spring Street. Jimenez, who had to be extricated from the vehicle, died at the scene.

A hospitalized San Bernardino County man also succumbed to injuries he had suffered nearly a month earlier. On Sept. 28, Jesus Contreras, 54, was gravely injured when the Honda sedan he was driving collided with an SUV on state Route 76, east of Magee Road in the Pala area. Paramedics took the Apple Valley resident to Palomar Medical Center, where he died Oct. 23.

Contreras’ wife, also in the Honda, died at the scene. Her name has not been released.
