The California State Board of Education is accepting applications for a new student board member for the 2026-27 school year.
A student is selected each summer to serve for one year as a voting board member.
The student board member will be expected to spend at least two consecutive school days every other month in Sacramento attending state board meetings.
The applicant must be enrolled in a California public high school and be a senior in 2026-27. They also are required to attend an upcoming conference in Sacramento from Nov. 3-5.
Student board members should expect to spend time studying agenda materials in advance of meetings, consulting with board staff about agenda items and attending advisory meetings, workshops and conferences.
Expenses for travel, lodging and meals are paid by the state, and student board members receive a $100 stipend each day they attend meetings or take part in official business.
Completed applications must be received by Sept. 19.
