OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A 30-year-old Oceanside man was arrested Sunday morning after allegedly attacking his brother with a samurai sword, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

The incident occurred around 6:35 a.m. in the 800 block of Arthur Avenue, where officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, they found a male victim suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities say the victim was allegedly attacked by his brother, later identified as Esteban Rivas.

After initial attempts to contact the suspect at his residence were unsuccessful, OPD's SWAT team was called to the scene. A few hours later, Rivas surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Rivas was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and was booked into the San Diego County Jail.

Detectives are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Theriot at 760-435-4378.
