7.6-magnitude quake in Japan not expected to generate tsunami threat to California

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake in northeast Japan triggered a tsunami of up to 40 centimeters (16 inches) in some coastal communities, but no tsunami warning was issued for the U.S. West Coast, Alaska, or British Columbia.
