6 cats die in South Bay house fire, family says

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A fire broke out Tuesday at a single-family residence in National City, resulting in the deaths of six cats, a resident of the home confirmed.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. in the 800 block of East 4th Street, according to the San Diego-Fire Rescue Department.
The flames shot out of the backside of the home where an unspecified number of adults and pets lived. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire.
While the adults were able to evacuate from the home, the daughter of the woman that lived in the home, whose family rescues cats, told FOX 5/KUSI that six cats died. Six other cats were saved, she added.
The resident said the dryer blowing up sparked the fire.
The American Red Cross was called to support the residents, per fire officials.
