1 dead, 3 injured in SR-79 motorcycle, vehicle crash

JULIAN, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on crash last week on State Route 79 in the Julian area.
The incident occurred around 5:59 p.m. Thursday on SR-79, located north of Oak Lake Lane, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Tuesday.
Authorities say a 46-year-old Vista man was riding northbound on SR-79 on a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle with a 40-year-old female passenger when for unknown reasons the rider crossed over the solid, double-yellow lines and crashed into a 2021 Toyota 4Runner traveling southbound.
The rider and passenger of the Harley Davidson were ejected from the motorcycle. The rider died from his injuries while the passenger suffered major injuries, per CHP.
The driver of the Toyota, a 29-year-old woman, lost control and veered to the right into a ravine. She as well as her 56-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries, according to law enforcement.
Authorities do not believe driving under the influence to be a factor in the crash.
“Maintaining your lane is not just about following the rules; it is about safe driving. Stay centered, stay alert, and stay focused. Let’s stay committed to protecting lives.” said Cpt. Monteagudo with CHP.
